There is still hope for your lighting retrofit

With the advent of LED and its costs some building managers get discourage from doing a lighting retrofit. But don’t, there is still hope. If your budget isn’t as large for an LED retrofit, there are still ways to do a retrofit and save money for a future LED renovation. Here are some recommendations:

1.- Don’t discard a fluorescent lighting retrofit. Changing 4 x 40W T12 to 2 x 32W T8 with a reflector (or 2 x 28W T8) is still the easiest and most cost effective way to go. This type of retrofit can save you up to 63% of power consumption per lighting fixture. You get also the fastest return on investment and you can save that money to plan for a future upgrade.

2.-  You can do a new lighting design. Even if your building is old, with the new technology available you can try various scenarios, without making any permanent changes. The idea is to know in advance what best suits your building and you can budget the recommendations that you like best.

3.-  Think about financing. A lot of banks are financing energy efficiency jobs. You can also get financing from private equities that specialized on this and can help you finance 100% of the job to be paid with the savings.

4.-   Get help. If you still don’t know what to do, get help. With a simple walkthrough audit an experienced energy service company can give you a pretty good idea of what you need to do, to stop wasting money and to update your buildings lighting.
